Thanks, Joe.... if only all would reply like this, we'd have something to go
by.
The file with the suggested locations is done automatically every two
weeks and just serves as a reminder that we have a bunch of locations
suggested (and if yours isn't there, then say so).
HOWEVER, we were
trying to move over to Pepe's Forum for the discussion of the location where
there is a "thread" of conversations under a given topic (in this case the
location and another thread on when. This really should be the simplest way to
go.
Intead, something is wrong and it seems like we've lost
participation.
I've been asking for a short summary for choosing your
favorite location. It might be obvious to you if you've been there and know
how nice it is. In the end, what you are suggesting is that 100-300 of our
classmates show up there for a reunion party.
As I see it, there are some
competing dilemas (and maybe I'm wrong):
1) I have the impression that
Mexico City folk don't want to travel very far and perhaps there is expense
playing a nasty hand in this.
2) Also, I feel that folk from around the
rest of the world want a beach resort to make it worth their trip and
expenses.
3) Some want to return to D.F. since that's were we went to
school 35 years ago, as some sort of nostalgia for the distant
past.
4) Others want easy access from U.S. locations without having to
make connections in D.F.
So, what I'm asking you Joe, is "Why Bahia de
San Carlos?" What makes it special in your mind. A convincing argument will
go a long way in tipping the vote in that direction.
I went to Puerto
Escondido about 20+ years ago and the place was just under development. It
had an airport and the group I went with stayed at my sister's in-laws place
(Rockwell's)
The home was right on the rocks against the sea and there
was a beautiful nudist beach in walking distance. A storm came in and the
waves were deafening. I loved the place, but the rest of my group was
miserable. Most got sick on the only pizza place in town, got terribly sun
burnt and got no sleep. I kept to the shade and even ended up playing soccer
with the locals and even taught the guardian how to play chess. The bad
side from me was being the only one that could speak the language, I had to
translate everything for everyone and be the one who went shopping,
negotiated with vendors and... aghhhhh...
Despite all that, I'd go along
with Puerto Escondido for our reunion, assuming the political climate in
Oaxaca isn't dangerous. It's not far from Bahias de Huatulco, which I've heard
to be very nice. Surely the town has developed somewhat, but remains a quaint
little town. The draw-back is that it isn't that easy to get there (no direct
flight from L.A., for instance)... But, I'd love to know why you picked
it.
In any case, we hear you loud and clear and now know what your
choices are and it's very much appreciated.
If everyone at least told
us their top three, we could analyze the results and get a good idea of where
to go. At least we could narrow it down a bit.
SO: EVERYONE's
HOMEWORK FOR THIS EVENT IS TO AT LEAST REPLY WITH SOME INPUT. VACATIONS ARE
OVER! REPLY NOW!
JANUARY IS NOW OFFICIALLY "PICK THE SPOT"
MONTH!!
You can choose to e-mail to the Yahoo list, Pepe's forum, or
simply send me your individual opinion (if you wish to be anonymous and I'll
post it as such).
Let's flood each other with real mail and maybe we can
out-number junk mail !? (that's dreaming)
